Brian Panowich and The Drive-By Truckers

Jenny and Forrest went together like "Peas and carrots." So does the right music with a really good book. In this series, I will share with you some of my favorite music paired with some of my favorite books and authors.

Author: Brian Panowich

Music: The Drive-By Truckers

This pairing is gritty with a southern fried, Jack Daniels edge. Panowich's "Bull Mountain" series is as sharp as a buck knife cut sterilized with methamphetamines. The Truckers ice down the pain with nasty guitar rifts and hard boiled lyrics. I came to both of these about the same time so they are synonymous in my mind. The south has it's Sunday go to meeting, mint juleps sipped whilst wearing seersucker suits and big hats side, but there is a dark underbelly highlighted by this pairing. Both have the skoal ring, greasy hair under a cowboy hat, hungover Tuesday morning feel not always associated with the south. If you are looking for a good starting point, pick up Bull Mountain by Brian Panowich and  Pizza Deliverance released in 1999 by The Drive-By Truckers
