May Book Wrap-Up

Keep an eye out for full reviews later this month, but here is a run down of my May 2021 reading list

Heaven's Prisoners by James Lee Burke- This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. I love Burke's style and the characters he creates. Second in the Dave Robicheaux stories, this has a great pace and was worth the time.

The Immortal Irishman:The Irish Revolutionary Who Became An American Hero by Timothy Egan- A great biography of a really interesting historical figure. As a reader of Civil War history, you get accustomed to facts being interjected into story lines over and over. This lacked those and I was grateful. I would recommend this as a light read or for someone interested in the Civil War but not wanting a deep dive.

Get Dutch!: Biography of Elmore Leonard by Paul Challen- On Goodreads, I gave this three stars, which is the lowest I will go on a book I actually finished. (It seems to me that if I finish it, it ought to be that good...right?) It seemed like a biography written by someone who only read other biographies. Not my favorite of the month and wouldn't recommend this to anyone but maybe the most die hard Leonard fan.

Blood Done Sign My Name: A True Story by Timothy B. Tyson- Ab-so-lute-ly floored by this book. So well written and tells a gripping story. As someone who lived in Oxford, NC for several years, I can say it fits with the place. I could not read this book fast enough. Now all of Tyson's books are on my to read list

Blood and Lemonade by Joe R. Lansdale- A fun little mosaic novel that is my first reading of the Hap and Leonard characters made famous by the TV series. I have know about these books for awhile and happened by this one in the library by chance. I'm glad I picked it up and flew right through it.
